Karnataka HC verdict on state iron ore export ban on Friday
Karnataka High Court is expected to deliver its judgement on a case challenging a state government ban on iron ore exports on Friday, lawyers connected with the case said.
The judgement is listed in the court's schedule for the day and is expected to come around 0900 GMT, lawyers in Bangalore city in southern Karnataka state said.
The state government banned exports of iron ore from 10 ports in July and subsequently prevented its movement to other ports for exports, citing a drive against illegal mining and the need to preserve resources for its own steel mills.
Karnataka produces iron ore fines and ores and accounts for around a quarter of India's iron ore exports of over 100 million tonnes a year, most of which lands in China , the world's largest steel maker.
India is the third largest exporter of iron ore in the world.
